Sermon on the mount – Love Thy Enemies

 

This simply means this … “in the best of us there is some evil and in the worst of us there is some good. When we come to see this we take a different attitude towards individuals… and when you come to the this point you look into the face of every man you begin to see the image of God. Find the good in your enemy.”

 

Another way you love your enemy.  When you can defeat your enemy you must not do it.  There will come a time and opportunity when you can defeat that person.  That is the time you must love your enemy.

 

“Defeat the evil systems but love the person in the system.”

¹² And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
¹³ And lead us not into temptation,  – Fear that God is NOT good.
but deliver us from the evil one.

 

 

PLURAL! “Our, Us” – Community is huge!

Not the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob –

 

Our father is for everyone – Any tribe could pray this

 

Hallowed be your name – Water turn wet – Fire is hot

HE IS HOLY – For us?  For God?

We as individuals are a part of it

I pray for it.  I am a part of it.

NOT take me to kingdom of heaven when I die

It is about that kingdom is needed here now.

We TRUST in this.

 

Your will be done – Jesus in the Garden

“not my will… but your will be done!”

 

I need to “Trust” in You.

This is how the Kingdom comes!

Lachmo Amino = “Tomorrow’s bread” “the bread that does not run out”.

We are asking for freedom from the deepest fears of our lives?

 

TRUST – Can I trust God?

Debts = are the things We SHOULD do but have not done.

Sins = The things We did that we should NOT have done

 

THE DAILY NEED FOR BREAD WE DAILY NEED FORGIVENESS

If we cannot forgive and accept forgiveness we will not truly live

The currency of the kingdom of God

 

I do not ignore injustice!!!

I forgive even as I struggle for justice

 

Praying “Your kingdom come” – we believe this world is not right but the coming of the kingdom of heaven is possible and real.

 

Revenge is the opposite of the Christian life.

 

Revenge is like fly paper. It leaves us sticky, trapped and limited.

 

What I am asking of God, to forgive me,  I must offer to others.

 

Us, NOT MY SIN!

 

We are forgiven first and that allows me to forgive

Other times we are called to forgive first and it initiates the process

We trust that when God forgives… He does.
