He was despised and rejected by mankind,

a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.

Like one from whom people hide their faces

he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.

SLIDE:  SHAME

SLIDE: The Soldiers Mock Jesus

Matthew 27:27-30 27Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him. 28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29 and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30 They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.

SLIDE:  Shame, SIN

SLIDE:  Isaiah 53:5-6

  1. Shame, Sin, DEATH

SLIDE:  Isaiah 53: 11-12

After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied;

by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,

and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, because he poured out his life unto death,

and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

SLIDE: Matthew 28:5-6 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.

1 Peter 1:3  Praise to God for a Living Hope!

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead!

SLIDE:  SHAME + SIN & DEATH = DEFEATED!

Colossians 2:13-15 When you were dead in your sins, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
