Pastor Pete Hartwig

Notes

SLIDE:  Get Real:  Emotional & Relational Health

LAST WEEK:  Spiritual Health   Get into the boat with Jesus.

SLIDE: Get Real:  Women at the well

                          John 4:1-26  Pg. 862

Tell the story

The “WELL” = life.

Jacob’s Well   –  Rachel  = famous

Genesis 29:11 Then Jacob kissed Rachel and began to weep aloud.

Matthew 22:36-40  36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’  40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Loving God and Love people (most important thing in life)

SLIDE:  Am I willing this morning to “Get Real” before God about my emotional & relational health?

TAKE THE ASSESMENT (pens?)

PLAY: Olympic song

She is avoiding

The time of day

Jesus calls her to Get Real

She deflects in her conversation

SLIDE: There are always consequences to my unwillingness to move towards emotional and relational health.

Why do we try to hide our lives from God?

Ignoring does not make it go away.

A new normal.  Getting water during the heat of the day.

People reach out to others for prayer during the week.  (lowest)

LIFE groups.

I got this.  – Pride.     Habit of how I deal with life.

5 times.  She has tried and tried.  Now Jesus.

SLIDE: She is looking to a place for strength that weakens her!

makes you want to withdraw.

Away from the love and support?

She is getting her alone time!

SLIDE: Emotional & Relational Health:  A Sabbath Rest

I LOVE the word Sabbath.

It is a spiritual, emotional and relational statement that I am trusting God.

Margins.   Sabbath.  Rest.  I cannot.  You will stop.

Sabbath is stopping yourself BEFORE you are stopped.

Go to my happy place.

Safe place.  ME TIME!

Sabbath is the recognition that I am created/creator

Each day…  some time.

Reading scripture everyday.

Word For Today

SLIDE:  What if “the well” I am drawing from doesn’t run dry but leaves me dry!

adds to your troubles instead of healing them?

water is unhealthy.

SLIDE:  Jesus stands where he is least expected!

THE HEART OF GOD!

Funny.  You cannot stop getting water.

Not only this.  You will be thirsty again.

Come to me!  Drink of me.

I will give you LIVING water.

You are exhausted.  You are worn out.

bubble up within you!

You don’t have to go… ____________________________!

SLIDE:  She takes/invites Jesus into her home.

Please do not leave Jesus here at church…

28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?” 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.

40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days.

SLIDE:  Put Feet to Your Faith

She is waiting for the Messiah!

Your wait is OVER!

“I, the one speaking to you—I am he.” –Jesus

Closing Song:  What a beautiful name it is…
